You travel around Mira with a party of characters, each with their own unique moves and combat styles. Some are more effective when they’re getting stuck in at close range, while others are better suited to hanging back and attacking from afar with ranged attacks. You can rearrange your team whenever you’re outside of battle, and even choose which character you control directly. Put together a team that complements each other well – you’ll want your most skilled comrades by your side in the heat of battle!Next
If you want to survive, you’ll need to be prepared to fight all kinds of lifeforms alongside your party. If you see enemies on the field and catch their attention, a battle will begin. Often you’ll fight against more than one opponent at once, so be ready to defend yourself from all sides and carefully select which target to take down first!
Characters in your party, including you, attack automatically at fixed intervals, but you can also unleash special attacks known as Arts to deal out some real damage or protect you and your team-mates. Defeat an adversary and you might get some useful items or materials that can be used to help BLADE or upgrade your own equipment.
Strengthen your weapons, gain experience to learn new moves and work together with your team to become a formidable force on the battlefield!Next
Attack from all sides
Attacking an enemy from behind, or from above, makes your attacks more accurate and improves your odds of landing critical hits that are sure to leave a mark. Some Arts are more effective when flanking or side-on to an enemy, so it’s vital to keep moving and take advantage of your adversary’s weak points.
Using certain moves at the right time can cause enemies to collapse or become dazed, giving you the perfect opportunity to deal loads of damage. You can also target specific parts of your opponent – destroying certain parts can make it easier to defeat them, and even earn you special rewards once the battle’s over.
Arts are powerful special moves that are used in combat. Though useful, Arts need time to recharge before they can be used again, so plan your assault with this in mind and use Arts strategically to gain an advantage.
Combining Arts with other attacks can increase their effectiveness dramatically. Some Arts cause more damage after a melee attack has been performed, while others cause more damage after a ranged attack. Chain together Arts efficiently to inflict massive damage on your enemies.
Each character has their own selection of Arts that are useful in different circumstances, and they’ll learn more as they gain experience. Choose characters with complementary moves and attack styles to improve your chances of victory. Arts can also be upgraded to increase their power for an even greater edge.
In order to learn various Arts, your character needs to have a class. While you begin as a Drifter, after a certain point you can choose to develop your character in one of three different directions.
The base of the entire class system, Drifters have a well-balanced selection of Arts. They’re good with knives and assault rifles.
A frontline fighter with a range of offensive and defensive Arts. They can take plenty of damage – and deal it out, too, thanks to increased melee power. Longswords and assault rifles are their weapons of choice.
This class uses various Arts to increase the damage inflicted on the enemy by the team, and this is backed up by their refined accuracy and evasion skills. They do battle with dual swords and dual guns.
Enforcers specialise in dealing damage at a distance and have many ranged attack Arts. They’re stealthy, and their range attacks have more strength than most. They fight with knives and rayguns.
During battles, you can take part in dialogues with your allies. These exchanges can have positive effects, such as restoring health or inflicting damage on enemies.See movie »
If an ally gives you a combat hint, suitable Arts will be highlighted – use one to restore both your own health and that of the ally who made the request. Using Soul Voice will also strengthen the bond between you and your allies. You can set different Soul Voices for each party member, each with its own effect that could help you turn the tide of battle!
Time of need
At certain times, such as when you draw a melee weapon ready for battle, or when your health falls below a specific level, an orange circle will appear in the middle of the screen. Press the B Button before this circle disappears to produce an effect, such as restoring all allies’ health.
Enter combat in a gigantic robotic exoskeleton, known as a Skell, to deal out devastating damage to even the biggest opponents! When you’re piloting a Skell, you can use Arts in the same way as in normal combat. You’ll also perform auto-attacks using the weapons they carry in both hands.
Using Arts while piloting a Skell gives you a chance of engaging Cockpit Mode. If Cockpit Mode is activated, all Arts immediately become available to use again without cooldown time.See movie »
You’ll encounter many characters as you explore Mira. Here are just a few of the faces that you’ll meet early in your adventure...
Elma is a team leader within BLADE. She is calm, collected and well-respected. Back on Earth, she was a colonel in the Coalition Special Operations Heavy Armor Training Unit, AKA the Skelleton Crew.
Lin Lee Koo
Lin works for BLADE as a mechanic. Despite her youth, she has lots of experience with machines, and is involved with the development of Skells. Lin is a bright and cheerful person who gets on with everyone.
Tatsu is a Nopon that you encounter on Mira. Though he comes across as naive and pure-minded, he does sometimes make some rather superior-sounding declarations.
Vandham is the commander of BLADE and former chief engineer of the White Whale. This tough-talking troublemaker is an equal opportunity offender, and is just as arrogant no matter who he’s talking to!
The former captain of the White Whale, an inter-planetary transport ship. Nagi is currently the NLA government’s Secretary of Defense. He works himself into the ground, doing whatever he can to secure his people’s safety.
If you earn a licence, you’ll be able to pilot an enormous, transformable robotic exoskeleton known as a Skell. Take to the skies and explore even more of Mira, or take on huge, powerful enemies that dominate many hostile environments.
Skells come in all shapes and sizes, and each type has its own advantages for field exploration and battle. Buying a Skell is a big commitment, so choose your type carefully and find the kind that’s most suited to your needs.
Formula Skells are nimble and excel at lightning-fast attacks. They’re considered inexpensive, entry-level Skells.
Urban Skells are durable and strike hard with melee attacks. Their reinforced armour affects their mobility, but they’re highly manoeuvrable in vehicle form.
Verus Skells boast boosted power output for their light frames. Despite their peculiar build, they’re highly powerful.
Lailah Skells are large and heavy, but their enhanced power means that no mobility is sacrificed. They’re designed to be as manoeuvrable as lighter Skells regardless of their size.
Inferno Skells have high defence and a good balance between ranged and melee attacks. They were mass-produced for mainstream use.
Mastema Skells excel at long-range combat, not least because their weight takes a toll on their mobility. They take practice to handle in vehicle form.
Amdusias Skells are built for melee combat, and they boast the highest defensive power and close-range attack power of any Skell series. These Skells weigh heavily on the wallet as well.
Set out on a journey across Mira, accompanied by a team of support characters that will stand by your side in battle. As you progress, work for different divisions of BLADE and do your part to aid humanity’s struggle for survival on this alien world.
Mira is rife with danger at every turn, and you’ll often have to engage in battle with hordes of hazardous foes – sometimes many at the same time. By discovering landmarks and exploring Mira, you might find useful resources that will help mankind. As you delve deeper into your adventure and bonds between your team grow stronger, your abilities will improve, creating opportunities for further missions.
You’ll need to be intrepid, skilled and able to keep a cool head in battle if you’re to venture into the outlands and return in one piece. There’s no way to predict what you might come up against...
A whole new you

Undertake missions to advance the story, strengthen bonds between your companions or meet new characters. Missions can involve defeating a certain enemy, tracking down rare resources or charting an unknown area, and there are different missions available depending on the time of day. Check out the Mission Control board at BLADE HQ to see what missions are available at any given time, and turn in missions when you’re done to receive rewards aplenty.
If you’re unsure of which way to head after starting a mission, you can use the Follow Ball to guide you. The precise properties of this invaluable item is known only to the Nopon who craft it – all you need to do is follow it and it will guide you to your destination. You can also send the Aerial Cam into the air to gain a fresh perspective and discover a new route.See movie »
Affinity is a measure of the relationships between you and any characters you encounter. The Affinity Chart shows the degree of Affinity between each of the characters, allowing you to see how strong your bonds are at a glance. Improving Affinity between characters in your party can give you a helping hand in combat.
The Arms Manufacturers develop weapons for both soldiers and Skells. There are numerous smaller companies, and by using their products you’ll aid them with their research, allowing you to gain access to enhanced weaponry.
Items and equipment can be enhanced with materials found around Mira. Materials can also be used to craft augments that will give you a boost on the battlefield.
After a certain point, you can join a squad – an online group for up to 32 players. Together with other members of your squad, you can explore Mira and share information that might help you out in future missions. Whether you prefer to play solo, with others around the world or just with friends, there’s a squad for everyone!
When you’re in a squad, it’s easy to connect with other players to fight alongside each other in online co-operative multiplayer or read reports that friendly squad members have written about areas they’ve explored.
Up to four squad members can go on missions together, with various objectives, such as eliminating enemies or collecting items. You can earn items by clearing online missions, such as Reward Tickets that can be exchanged for credits, experience and materials. You can also earn BLADE Medals, which allow you to fight humongous enemies that you can’t best alone!
Equipment and other items acquired after battles can be exchanged between squad members. Many valuable materials can only be acquired online, so be sure to take part in these missions when you get the chance!
Scout 'em out
If you play while connected to the internet, you can scout the avatars of other players and add them to your team as a computer-controlled character. Your avatar can also be added to other players’ teams, and will earn experience, items and rare resources as a result. Try to create an avatar that will attract other players’ attention and rack up extra experience in the field!
Share your discoveries
When you join a squad, you can produce reports and share information with fellow squad members, plus access past reports that are stored on the server. Be sure to create a report whenever you access a new area or get hold of a new item – the information you share with your squad is sure to prove invaluable.
Reports that you receive can be recommended to other players. Reports that are highly recommended might also become available for viewing by players from other squads.
In 2054, Earth was caught in the middle of an apocalyptic war between two highly-advanced alien races.
Knowing that utter annihilation was a very real possibility, the governments of the world joined together to devise a worldwide escape plan known as Project Exodus. As Project Exodus reached its final stages, people flocked to their nearest city, and a vast fleet of spacecraft left Earth in search of a new home.
But for most of mankind, sadly this was a false hope – many ships were shot down by alien forces before they even escaped Earth’s orbit, and in the end only a few remained unscathed. One of the lucky ones was a craft called the White Whale.Next
The White Whale drifted for two long years and was no nearer to finding a suitable planet. Although it had left Earth far behind, still the White Whale was not safe. An enemy aggressor pursued it, and an epic battle for survival ensued. A hero from the White Whale managed to destroy the enemy craft, but it was too little, too late: the ship sustained critical damage and tumbled towards a nearby planet. Broken apart by the atmosphere, the White Whale’s parts were scattered across the planet’s surface.
On this planet, known as Mira, the remaining passengers of the White Whale began their quest for survival. After establishing New Los Angeles, a city formed from one part of the vast ship that had brought them there, the survivors formed a new government and BLADE, a central organisation formed to support the government.Next
BLADE – Builders of a Legacy After the Destruction of Earth – leads search and rescue efforts to find any survivors, locates food and water, researches the world, and protects the inhabitants of New Los Angeles from any danger that Mira might pose. With the support of flying, transformable robotic exoskeletons called Skells, BLADE surveys the planet and defends against any gigantic lifeforms that threaten humanity’s survival.
Now, two months after the White Whale’s crash, your adventure is about to begin...
Mira is a sprawling alien world filled with vast oceans, expansive grassy plains, towering mountain ranges, exotic jungles and more, each with their own secrets to discover and threats to face. During your travels, you can move seamlessly around the surface of the planet and explore many huge areas, watch their ecosystems come to life and encounter a range of unfamiliar, gargantuan beasts which can be battled to gain valuable resources. Be sure to visit areas at various times of day to experience different events and see each area in a whole new light.
See a selection of Mira’s many landmarks by clicking the map.
New Los Angeles
The survivors from the White Whale spacecraft have settled in New Los Angeles, also known as NLA. Acting as mankind’s base on Mira, NLA is divided into four main areas.See movie »
The heart of the city. The upper level is home to BLADE Tower, which houses the government offices and the BLADE barracks. A number of facilities can be found on the lower level, including a hangar complex for Skell maintenance.
This area contains industrial superstructures, including the food production plant, weapon factories and the Skell development facility.
A bustling business district complete with cafés, restaurants and retailers where people can shop for clothes and other items.
The bulk of the populace live here. To cater to their needs, this area contains houses, parks and a church.
BLADE assists the government in many areas as mankind struggles to survive on Mira. Primarily made up of former military personnel, BLADE has three key objectives.
BLADE is made up of a series of divisions. Each division has its own responsibility, from securing resources to simply helping out the citizens of New Los Angeles. After joining BLADE, you can select the division you wish to join, though you can change your role after your initial selection. As your reputation grows, you will be granted the right to work for any division you like.
