James began his photographic career aged 12 in the UK – his very first picture published in a UK national newspaper was achieved when he was just 14 years old; by the time he was 16, he had been published in every newspaper in the UK. He was awarded the British Press Young Photographer of the Year in 1988 for an image shot at the Nelson Mandela 70th birthday concert at Wembley Stadium entitled, "Hands for Mandela". James created his own photographic consultancy, working directly with blue chip clients on their photographic needs and runs this business today from his home in Sydney, NSW, Australia. His clients are varied and include Virgin Blue, Bridgeclimb, Sydney Opera House, Optus, Hamilton Island, Cunard, Carnival Australia, Sydney Airport and Singapore Airlines.
